Berlin is the capital of Germany and has a history dating back to the 13th century. It grew into an important European political and cultural centre, becoming the capital of the German Empire in 1871. Berlin was heavily affected during World War II and later divided by the Berlin Wall from 1961 to 1989. After German reunification in 1990, Berlin became the capital of a united Germany. Today, it is famous for its history, museums, architecture, art and vibrant culture.
